TANK TESTING

A 20,000-gallon, in-ground water tank provides a test platform for conducting a variety of tests. The tank has proven to be a versatile instrument for many unique programs.

Our traveling gantries over the tank allow ease of loading and unloading boats from semi-trailers or standard boat trailers and placing them safely into the water. Crane scales give fast and accurate measurement of assembly weights.

Over-water platforms and crane pads allow in-the-water-drop tests for Ring Buoys, PFD Lights, and other life saving devices.

STEERING SYSTEMS

Our capabilities include both in-situ and laboratory bench tests for all types of steering systems and steering system components. Whether it is a steering wheel, a steering cable, or any of the new electronic or hydraulic devices, we are equipped to evaluate the performance and conformance with ABYC or ISO Standards.

IMANNA Lab, Inc. has played a key role in establishing laboratory procedures to gain consistency between laboratories and approval agencies around the world.

The recently approved IMO SOLAS requirements require data collection techniques which implement a procedure developed by our engineers to quickly and economically verify the intensity of lifesaving devices in the entire upper hemisphere of the light. We have worked closely with IMO committee members to develop procedures to give consistent evaluations of strobe, intermittent flasher, or continuous emission sources.

ACCELERATED WEATHERING

IMANNA Lab, Inc. has kept abreast of the changes in accelerated aging techniques over the years. Our engineers are keenly aware of the devastating effects in prediction when the tester steps outside the constraints necessary to accurately predict long-term exposure. We are not bold enough to step outside the vague prediction envelope that is inherent to accelerated aging; however, our experience with various materials in lab and natural Florida environments enable us to give good estimates of many materials used in the marine environment.

FULL ASSEMBLY TESTING

RFI/EMI/EMC CERTIFICATION TESTS

Recent developments in the electronic industry have made it necessary to verify the electromagnetic interaction of many new devices. The CE-Mark requirements and the European market availability also introduced the need to test many items not previously tested for electromagnetic compatibility.

IMANNA Lab, Inc. increased its capability to serve the marine industry to provide testing in the EMC arena so manufacturers could obtain the entire CE-Mark testing at a single laboratory. Now the marine manufacturer can send his product to a single lab to obtain the mechanical, electrical, EMC, and environmental tests required for conformance verification to all applicable directives and type approvals.

The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) has been a key leader in defining tests for non-metal hoses used in the marine and automotive industries. IMANNA Lab, Inc. is pleased to provide a comprehensive assortment of tests stipulated by the SAE for hoses used in various systems and transferring various fluids.

COMPUTER SIMULATION AND TEST VERIFICATION

The use of computers has greatly enhanced the testing industry. IMANNA Lab, Inc. has attempted to stay abreast of the developments in the testing arena to maintain a state-of-the-art data acquisition and instrumentation system. The speed of the computer and its mathematical problem solving capability has significantly increased the amount of data the laboratory can convey to the customer.

It is no feat to provide a light customer with 500,000 light intensity data points with today’s computer data acquisition equipment. Also, the simulations of induced effects allow the test conductor to analyze many different parameters not possible in past years.

PHOTOMETRIC TESTING

The marine industry has a life-saving mission in the navigation light requirements. The collision avoidance advantages stemming from standardized navigation lights has long been recognized by the marine regulatory agencies. The COLREGS are a tremendous tool in the hands of conscientious manufacturers who are meticulously designing lights with precise light cutoffs and intensity shading.

The navigation lights form but one facet of the photometric testing at IMANNA Laboratory. Although many navigation light manufacturers have found the precision of the measurements require fine adjustments of their light sources, they know that the safety of boaters is at stake. IMANNA feels that the exactness and precision of its photometric equipment is important to maintain safety margin in the products we test.

HIGH POTENTIAL (HI-POT) TESTING

The continued use of a large quantity of electrical and electronic devices in the marine and other industries has greatly increased the need to verify the electrical isolation values of various materials and components. The High Electrical Potential subjection is a good measure of the synergism of components in electrical circuits. The potential of stray electrical discharges can mean instant danger in the marine environment where gasoline fumes and fresh air can be mixed in proportions that may establish an explosive atmosphere.

The Hi-Pot testing performed at IMANNA Lab, Inc. includes the following:

VIBRATION AND SHOCK

The marine environment introduces significant dynamic loads that can be recorded in the field and duplicated in the lab. IMANNA Lab, Inc. has developed the capability to perform in-situ tests to record real-world vibration and shock data. Once this data is collected and analyzed, laboratory simulation can be accomplished on the dynamic vibration and shock equipment.

Whether it is free-fall shock tests or shocks produced by periodic oscillations, our technicians can program the machines to duplicate the energy and assess the results to the components or assemblies we test.

REPORTS/PROGRAMS

IMANNA Lab, Inc. has incorporated a versatile program for meeting the needs of its customers. IMANNA Lab is not a "standards writing house", and consequently tests to agency or association developed standards that are recommended within the testing industry. We also test to the customer’s standards where they exist.

We attempt to maintain a large selection of standards from various standards organizations; however, we realize we cannot maintain all of the standards that exist. We do make an attempt to maintain all Marine Industry Standards in the arenas of our capabilities to reduce the turn-around time for quotes and test programs.
